TIL There was an intern who stole moon rocks from NASA, spread the rocks on his bed and had sex on them, resulting in contamination making the rocks virtually useless to the scientific community. He was sentenced for more than 8 years.

My research project is going to be over analysis of meteorites, but due to this incident, both I and my supervisor have had to file tons of paperwork and contact so many different people that it’s taken 6 months to even get an interview scheduled so somebody at NASA can talk to me and make sure I’m not going to steal and/or have sex on any of their space rocks.
